The Japanese tuning house Liberty Walk has turned their attention from supercars to the new Suzuki Jimny… And I hate it. I’m not sure who asked for it, but I am certain that a few too many Sapporo’s were involved.
Liberty Walk is best known for making widebody kits for Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s and Nissan GTR’s, so it seems a little out of character for them to be so interested in an ‘everyman’s car’ such as the Suzuki Jimny.
Taking to Instagram, Liberty Walk’s founder Wataru Kato announced that Liberty Walk is now taking pre-orders for their monstrosity named the ‘G Mini‘. Clearly, they’ve taken a lot of inspiration from AMG’s G Wagen. While pricing is yet to be released, one can assume nobody will be saying “hey! that’s a bargain!”

Liberty Walk has bolted on some Jeep-like wheel arches (why they didn’t go for G Wagen style ones, I haven’t the foggiest), custom front bar, body-coloured headlight surround, scooped bonnet, a set of riced wheels, and other accoutrements. What Liberty Walk has done to the Jimny angers me more than what they do to the aspirational cars they typically ruin.
The Jimny is supposed to be a rough and rugged off-roader that can tackle almost anything 4×4’s 4-times its size can do. It’s not supposed to be fancy, it’s supposed to be dependable, and above all else, functional almost to a fault. To me, the Jimny is the realisation of form following function and has no business being ‘pimped’ like it’s 2004.
What Liberty Walk has done here, is turn the dependable and loyal and Kelpie into a pretentious show Poodle… And I hate it.
Is it just me? Am I the only one who thinks this abomination is unnecessary? Or do you agree with me? Let me know in the comments.
The 2019 Suzuki Jimny is due to hit Australian dealerships in Q1 2019.
